# How to delete your Whip account

> How to delete your Whip account step by step: the 28-day grace period, exactly what's erased, what stays behind, and how to cancel if you change your mind.

To delete your Whip account, go to **Settings → Delete Account**, review the preview of what you'll lose, and confirm. This starts a **28-day grace period** during which your account is locked but recoverable. Cancel anytime in those 28 days to restore everything. After 28 days, deletion is permanent. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account.

## Delete your account, step by step

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the delete screen" icon="settings">
    Go to your **Profile** tab, tap **Settings**, then **Delete Account**
    under **Account Actions**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Preview what goes" icon="eye">
    Whip shows you exactly what deletion will affect, with counts of your
    apps, likes, comments, and followers, so there are no surprises.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm" icon="circle-check">
    Tap **Delete Account** and confirm. Whip schedules the deletion and signs
    you out of your other sessions.
  </Step>

    Your account enters a locked-down state. You have 28 days to change your
    mind before anything becomes permanent.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## During the 28-day grace period

Once deletion is scheduled, your account is locked down. You can still open Whip to check your deletion status, cancel the deletion, or [sign out](/account/manage-your-account) — but the rest of the app is paused while the clock runs.

<Check>
  Change your mind? Cancel anytime within those 28 days from the deletion
  status screen, and everything comes right back — your apps, chats, follows,
  all of it. After cancelling, there's a 7-day wait before you can request
  deletion again.
</Check>

When the 28 days are up, deletion runs and becomes **permanent**. There's no undo after that.

## What gets deleted

When deletion completes, Whip erases everything private to you:

* Every private app and draft
* **All** of your chat history
* Your likes, saves, comments, and follows
* Your blocks and notifications
* Your personal information

## What stays behind

Apps you [published](/sharing/publish-your-app) don't disappear. They stay playable in the community, credited to **"\[deleted]"** instead of your name.

<Info>
  Think of publishing like releasing a song: once it's out in the world, the
  community keeps what you shared. Your published apps live on, just no longer
  tied to your name.
</Info>

Want your published apps gone too? Delete each of those apps **before** you request account deletion.

<Warning>
  This order matters. Once account deletion completes, published apps are
  anonymized, not removed. If you want them gone entirely, [delete those
  apps](/sharing/unpublish-and-archive) first.
</Warning>

## Emails along the way

Whip keeps you posted by email at three moments: when you request deletion, if you cancel, and when deletion completes. These arrive even if you've turned off other emails.

  <Accordion title="Does uninstalling the app delete my account?" icon="smartphone">
    No. Deleting the Whip app from your phone only removes the app — your
    account, apps, and data stay put. To actually delete your account, use
    **Settings → Delete Account**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I get my account back after 28 days?" icon="calendar-x">
    No. Cancellation only works during the 28-day grace period. Once that
    window closes and deletion runs, it's permanent.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is there a wait to delete again after cancelling?" icon="hourglass">
    After you cancel a deletion, you must wait 7 days before you can request
    deletion again. It's a small cool-off so the choice is a deliberate one.
