# What's new in Whip — changelog

> Everything new in Whip, week by week: AI app building, leaderboards, highlight reels, home folders, remixing, and more. Updated every week.

Whip lets you describe an app in plain words, watch AI build it, tweak it just by chatting, then publish and share it with everyone. Here's everything we've shipped, week by week, since day one.

<Update label="Week of Jun 29, 2026" tags={["New", "Home"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Edit your Home screen like your phone's.** 🎉 Press and hold to enter
    edit mode, drag apps around with satisfying wiggle-and-react physics,
    drop one app onto another to make a folder, and tidy up with polished
    folder controls. Organizing your library finally feels like second
    nature. [How it works](/using/home-screen-and-folders).
  * **A long-press menu for every Home app** — open, share, remove, and more
    from one context menu, with a cleaner flow for removing apps from Home.
  * **An empty Home is no longer empty** — brand-new? Whip now suggests
    popular apps so your library starts with something to play.
  * Smoother loading everywhere — polished loading screens for Home, the
    feed, and app details instead of blank screens.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Fixed rare crashes during app playback and a case where quickly editing
    the same app twice could show an "unable to save" error.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jun 22–28, 2026" tags={["New", "Feed", "Games"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Leaderboards.** 🎉 Game-style apps can now keep a real high-score
    board — it tracks each player's personal best, and Whip notifies you the
    moment someone beats your score. Bragging rights, formalized.
    [How leaderboards work](/using/leaderboards).
  * **Filter your feed by category** — chips for Gaming, Entertainment,
    Sports & Fitness, and the rest now sit right in the
    [feed](/discover/the-feed), which also moved its tabs up into the header
    for more room to scroll.
  * **A redesigned Home library** — new views for your collection: My Home
    (your custom order), Recently Played, Added, Alphabetical, By Creator,
    and By Category.
  * **Folders, properly** — create folders exactly where you want them on
    Home, drag-and-drop friendly.
  * **See a remix's story in the feed** — tap into any remix to see what it
    was remixed from, with a link back to the original.
  * Sharper app icons (better subjects, cleaner backgrounds) and a simpler,
    shorter onboarding flow.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Fixed the follow button state on suggested-creator cards and smoothed
    out chat screen transitions.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jun 15–21, 2026" tags={["New", "Search"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Search and Explore, rebuilt** — one smarter search across apps,
    builders, and categories, tag-aware matching, and a proper Explore
    landing experience. Finding your next favorite app got much easier.
    [Take the tour](/discover/search).
  * **Highlight reels are ready sooner** — they now start generating the
    moment your app finishes building, so they're waiting for you at the
    [publish screen](/sharing/highlight-reels).
  * **Sharing an already-published app skips straight to sharing** — no
    redundant re-publish step.
  * App of the Day now arrives for everyone at 10 AM local time, custom app
    icons now show in notifications, a heart animation plays when you like
    an app, and Instagram shares include a preview image.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Apps you haven't opened in a while now wake up automatically instead of
    failing to load.
  * Publishing right after an edit no longer races your autosave.
  * Fixed handling of non-English characters in apps that save data.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jun 8–14, 2026" tags={["New", "Builder"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Apps can connect to the internet.** 🎉 Generated apps can now fetch
    live data — weather, currency rates, trivia, and more from a curated set
    of safe sources (with your consent). Live scores and real-time info,
    unlocked. [What apps can do](/building/what-apps-can-do).
  * **Custom app icons everywhere on mobile** — across the feed, profiles,
    chat, and launch screens.
  * **"Discover great creators"** — a suggested-creators screen when you
    join Whip.
  * **A fairer App of the Day** — now chosen by real engagement in recent
    windows, not just recency.
  * Video support in feed cards, share links that open straight to the right
    app, and [notification settings](/social/notifications) to control
    exactly what Whip tells you about.
  * Fewer wrongly-blocked posts — a second-opinion safety check means
    legitimate content is less likely to be flagged by mistake.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Hardened the AI against jailbreak attempts and explicit-content tricks.
  * Fixed email unsubscribe links and the re-subscribe flow.
  * Fixed a crash when uploading multiple files with the same name, plus an
    iOS rendering glitch.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jun 1–7, 2026" tags={["New", "Publishing"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Custom-designed app icons.** 🎉 Every app now gets a unique,
    art-directed icon made just for it — created when you build and when you
    publish. Generic icons, retired.
  * **Faster, more reliable highlight reels** — generation is about twice as
    fast, handles graphics-heavy apps, and shows live capture progress.
  * **A notifications & email overhaul** — weekly recap, trending, and
    feature-drop emails with an easy unsubscribe/resubscribe page.
  * Reorder your [highlight reel](/sharing/highlight-reels) with
    drag-and-drop, share to Instagram via a new image viewer, browse a
    Remixes tab on app sheets, and see published dates on feed cards.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Failed edits no longer wipe your app's description or icon, and a single
    failure no longer breaks the rest of your version history (we also
    repaired 90+ affected apps).
  * Your feed now correctly reflects who you follow, thumbnails work for
    graphics-heavy apps, and a frozen "Capturing highlights" progress bar
    got unstuck.
  * Privacy fix: making a version private could still expose its old
    comments — now fixed.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of May 25–31, 2026" tags={["New", "Publishing", "Feed"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Highlight reels for published apps.** 🎉 Add a carousel of images and
    video to a published app — upload your own, or let Whip auto-capture
    highlights from your running app. It shows across the feed and app
    details. [Meet highlight reels](/sharing/highlight-reels).
  * **No more duplicate apps in your feed** — an app with several published
    versions now appears as a single card with its likes, saves, and
    comments combined.
  * "People to follow" suggestions in your feed, suggested prompts to
    kickstart a new app, inline follow on feed cards, and smoother scrolling.
  * Offline handling — a friendly no-network screen, and tapped actions now
    survive sign-in and navigation.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Fixed some apps failing to build due to generated-code issues, improved
    sign-in error handling, and made profile text easier to read.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of May 18–24, 2026" tags={["New", "Social"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **A Trending tab** — a top-apps feed ranked purely by engagement, with
    its own tab. [How the feed works](/discover/the-feed).
  * **Browse a creator's full published history** — every public version,
    not just the latest.
  * **Fully-featured comments** — likes, @-mentions, and image attachments,
    end-to-end. [Comments on Whip](/social/comments).
  * A bigger profile & social release — a Remixes tab, tappable
    follower/following counts that open a Follows list, and save/share/remix
    actions on long-press in Search.
  * Smoother app viewing — no accidental zoom or bounce on iOS.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * People who liked your app no longer show as "Deleted\_User", profile app
    counts are accurate, and remixing works again after a storage change.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of May 11–17, 2026" tags={["New", "Privacy"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Up-front consent** — before opening an app that uses AI chat or cloud
    storage, a clear sheet explains exactly what it uses.
    [Consent, explained](/using/data-ai-and-consent).
  * Like comments and @-mention people in comments.
  * A refreshed tab layout and the Whip logo in the header.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Apps no longer get stuck on the loading screen (consent-flow timing),
    comment like-states display correctly, and reinstalling no longer
    carries over the previous install's analytics identity.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of May 4–10, 2026" tags={["New", "Social"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * Add images to comments.
  * A "someone you follow published a new app" notification.
  * Consent controls for AI features.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Apr 27 – May 3, 2026" tags={["Improved", "Safety"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * Stricter content moderation to better catch borderline content.
  * A nicer remix flow — remixed apps now show the original's info, with a
    reworked remix screen.
  * Update prompts when a new version of Whip is available, social links in
    Settings, and copy unified to "Whip" throughout.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Privacy fix: fixed a bug that could mix up different users' identities
    in analytics.
  * Content moderation is now fail-safe — if the safety service is down,
    Whip holds the content instead of letting it through unscreened.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Apr 20–26, 2026" description="Whip 1.0" tags={["New", "Privacy"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Per-app permission consent.** 🎉 Apps must now ask before using your
    location, camera, microphone, or motion sensors — and you can review and
    revoke these permissions anytime in Settings → Permissions. Built with
    safeguards so an app can't impersonate a real system prompt.
    [How permissions work](/using/app-permissions).
  * **Whip 1.0** — the version that went out to the world.
  * **Clearer limits** — hitting a build limit now shows a clear message,
    keeps your partial work, and lets you pick up where you left off.
  * Remixed apps are now labeled, so you can tell remixes from originals.
  * Cleaner app thumbnails, and Terms & Privacy links on the sign-in,
    Settings, and account-deletion screens.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Comment posting was failing about half the time in production — fixed.
  * You're no longer re-asked for permissions you already granted, and
    Android permission checks are reliable.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Apr 13–19, 2026" tags={["Improved", "Safety", "Feed"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **A smarter feed** — engaging apps surface faster, and brand-new apps
    get a fair shot at the top for their first few hours.
  * **18+ age gating** — date of birth is now part of onboarding.
    [Age requirements](/account/age-requirements).
  * **A safer community** — usernames, comments, and bios are now screened
    for inappropriate content.
  * Per-app permission prompts with a native Allow/Deny dialog, a "Plays"
    tab on profiles, and better notification routing.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Fixed onboarding breaking for existing accounts after the date-of-birth
    change, and repaired broken share links.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Apr 6–12, 2026" tags={["New", "Account"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Stop a build in progress** — cancel a generation anytime; your partial
    work is kept so you can pick it back up.
  * **Delete your account** — a full self-serve flow with a 28-day grace
    period, email updates along the way, and your published apps preserved.
    [How deletion works](/account/delete-your-account).
  * In-app AI chat keeps rolling out — streaming, history, multiple
    sessions, and image upload inside your apps.
  * Get notified when someone plays your app, rate Whip's replies with a
    thumbs up/down, and manage blocked users from Settings.
  * Better AI image generation — photo-to-painting, avatars, filters, and
    style transfer now reliably use real AI.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Apps no longer hang after finishing generating, builds no longer run out
    of memory on certain prompts, and active builds are protected during
    updates.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Mar 30 – Apr 5, 2026" tags={["New", "Builder"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Apps can have their own built-in AI chat.** 🎉 The apps you build can
    now include a real AI chat: streaming replies, multiple threads with
    history, image uploads, even AI image generation ("make that
    brighter"). Perfect for assistants, tutors, and story games.
    [What apps can do](/building/what-apps-can-do).
  * **Play counts** — see how many times an app has been played, right on
    its card. Fresh apps surface faster based on recent plays (your own
    plays don't count toward your app).
  * Daily "App of the Day" push notification, archived apps on profiles,
    smarter notification taps, and clearer attachment errors.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * **Builds are about 3.5× faster** — fixed an issue that made every build
    re-download everything from scratch.
  * Finished apps no longer occasionally show as "failed", long active
    builds are no longer cut off, interrupted builds retry automatically,
    and build errors are clearer.
  * Privacy: fixed an issue that mislocated users to the server's region.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Mar 23–29, 2026" tags={["Improved", "Safety"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **More reliable generation** — if one AI model struggles, Whip
    automatically retries and can fall back to another.
  * Report and block on mobile — report apps, people, and comments.
    [Reporting](/account/report-content) · [Blocking](/account/block-users).
  * Real shareable links in the share dialog, better app thumbnails across
    the catalog, and mobile polish everywhere.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Archiving works on iOS, and titles, icons, descriptions, and tags no
    longer fail to generate.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Mar 16–22, 2026" tags={["New", "Social"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Faster edits for everyone** — the quicker, cheaper refine experience
    is now the default.
  * **More notifications** — likes, comments, follows, save milestones, and
    a daily "App of the Day."
  * **Archive apps** you don't want shown.
  * Richer sharing and engagement — a share dialog, a tabbed
    Likes/Comments/Remixes sheet, a revamped Home, and an Explore screen
    with infinite scroll.
  * Apps can show native pop-ups, and pinch-zoom is disabled for a more
    app-like feel.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Your own public apps now show in Explore, brand-new apps are no longer
    instantly buried, and "Anonymous" no longer appears for people with a
    username.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Mar 9–15, 2026" tags={["New", "Builder"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Apps can do far more** — the building blocks available to generated
    apps jumped from 11 to 40: 3D, 2D, audio, math, visual effects,
    gestures, data visualization, and a dedicated game-building toolkit.
  * The personalized "For You" feed with smarter ranking, people and apps in
    one search, and profile pages with follow/unfollow.
  * Edit your profile end-to-end, a new settings section, and a bigger time
    budget for complex apps.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Discovery shows the correct, latest versions of apps, generation retries
    through temporary AI hiccups, and the keyboard no longer covers inputs.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Mar 2–8, 2026" tags={["New", "Discovery"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Automatic tags and categories** for every app, to power better
    discovery.
  * **Search for people**, not just apps.
  * Push notifications end-to-end with a new in-app notifications screen,
    attach photos, camera shots, or files in the builder, and a first
    discovery feed on mobile.
  * Invite other creators to Whip.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Privacy fix: chat attachments on public apps could be downloaded by
    anyone — now only the owner can.
  * Shared apps create usable copies, failed apps can be revived by editing
    them, and publishing shows/hides the correct app.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Feb 23 – Mar 1, 2026" tags={["New", "Feed"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **A personalized "For You" feed** — discover apps ranked for you,
    refreshed continuously.
  * **Push notifications** — including "someone remixed your app."
  * **Publish & share on mobile** — a published screen with sharing, "open
    in Instagram," and copy-link.
  * Report inappropriate content, edit your profile, and much faster,
    cheaper edits.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Edits no longer build from an old version, and Android keyboard, chat
    scrolling, and search flows all got fixes.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Feb 16–22, 2026" tags={["New", "Builder", "Social"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Add images and PDFs to your chat.** 🎉 Upload files in the builder and
    the AI uses them in your app. Attachments stay with your app across
    edits. [How attachments work](/building/attachments).
  * **See the AI think in real time** — the builder streams the AI's
    thinking, actions, and build steps as they happen.
  * **Likes, comments, remixes, and saves** — engage with apps you love.
  * Search with typo tolerance ("calculater" still finds Calculator), app
    preview screenshots, shareable links you can revoke anytime, and higher
    build limits.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Apps that save numbers no longer crash, share links open the right app,
    and live build streaming no longer hangs.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Feb 9–15, 2026" tags={["New", "Builder"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Apps can save data.** 🎉 Generated apps can now store and load real
    data — so trackers, journals, games, and notes actually remember your
    stuff.
  * **Smarter building** — the AI can search the web while building to use
    up-to-date info.
  * **Block users** — blocking makes you and the other person invisible to
    each other across search, feed, and profiles.
  * Sign in with email or Apple, smarter content safety (fewer legitimate
    apps wrongly rejected), and self-healing generation that catches its own
    errors.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Clearer failure messages when a build is blocked or can't finish, and a
    sturdier app viewer.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Feb 2–8, 2026" tags={["Improved"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * Onboarding is fully live on mobile, with refreshed app icons and a nicer
    build-progress animation.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Builds no longer hang forever — a stuck build now stops after a few
    minutes with a clear error instead of spinning endlessly.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jan 26 – Feb 1, 2026" tags={["New", "Onboarding"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Tell Whip what you're into** — a new onboarding flow for your goals
    and interests.
  * Pick a unique username (handle), and browse previous versions of an app
    from the builder.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Creating a new app from the chat screen no longer navigates you away
    mid-build.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jan 19–25, 2026" tags={["New", "Publishing"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Publish your apps.** Make a specific version of your app public, from
    a new publish screen.
  * **Follow other creators** — the beginning of Whip's social side.
  * More ways to sign in — Apple and email + password, with email
    verification.
  * Your chat is now a timeline — "version shipped" markers appear right in
    the conversation, and app icons and descriptions show throughout.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Generated apps render their styling correctly, sessions no longer drop
    unexpectedly, and chat auto-scroll behaves.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jan 12–18, 2026" tags={["New", "Builder"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * **Watch your app being built, live.** The builder streams the AI's
    progress as it works — chat interface, build-progress card, and an "app
    ready" card when it's done.
  * **Permission prompts** — apps ask your permission before using sensitive
    features.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Jan 5–11, 2026" tags={["New"]}>
  ### ✨ New & improved

  * Sign in on mobile and see your apps on the Home screen.
  * A polished sign-in screen with a rotating welcome carousel.
</Update>

<Update label="Week of Dec 22–28, 2025" description="Day one" tags={["New"]}>
  ### ✨ Whip comes to life

  * **Build an app just by describing it.** 🎉 Type what you want, and
    Whip's AI turns it into a real, working app — then keep refining it by
    chatting, remix it, publish it, and manage all your apps. This is the
    heart of Whip, working for the very first time.
  * **The Whip mobile app is born** — the first version of the app you'll
    use to create and manage everything.
  * **Automatic titles** — each app gets a name generated from your
    description.

  ### 🐛 Fixed

  * Very long titles are now neatly shortened instead of running off the
    screen.
</Update>
