# Whip FAQ: everything about the AI mini app builder

> Quick answers about Whip: what it is, whether it's free, which phones it works on, who owns your apps, how fast the AI builds, and how to get started.

## The basics

    Whip is a free mobile app where you describe an app idea in plain words
    and AI builds it into a real, working mini app — usually in about a
    minute. You can then edit it by chatting, keep it private, publish it to
    a community feed, share it with friends, or remix other people's

    Yes — completely. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and
    nothing to unlock. Building has [daily
    limits](/building/build-limits-and-failed-builds) that are generous
    enough that most people never notice them, and they reset on their own.

  <Accordion title="Which phones does Whip work on?" icon="smartphone">
    iPhone and Android. Grab it from the [App Store or Google
    Play](/getting-started/download-and-sign-in). There's no web or desktop
    version — Whip lives on your phone, and the apps you make run right
    inside it.

  <Accordion title="Do I need to know how to code?" icon="code">
    No — that's the whole point. You describe what you want ("a plant
    watering reminder with a cute frog mascot") and the AI writes all the
    code. You never see a line of it unless you go looking.

    18 or older. Whip checks your age during sign-up, and under-18 accounts
    can't be created. Details in [age

## Making and owning things

    Trackers, calculators, games (with sound, effects, and leaderboards),
    quizzes, journals, AI companions with their own chat, tools that pull

    Usually about a minute or two. Ambitious, multi-feature apps can take
    longer. You don't have to watch — Whip notifies you when it's ready.

    Not unless you choose. Every app starts **private** — only you can open
    it. It becomes visible to others only when you
    [publish it](/sharing/publish-your-app) or send someone a
    [share link](/sharing/share-links).

    You make it, it's yours to keep private, publish, or delete. Publishing
    shares it with the community — people can play it and
    [remix it](/discover/remix-apps) with automatic credit back to you. The

  <Accordion title="Can I use an app someone shared without making my own stuff?" icon="link">
    Yes. During sign-up, tell Whip you're here to use apps rather than build
    them — the feed, search, and every shared link work the same. Most
    people end up building something eventually anyway. It's contagious.

    Remixing gives you your own editable copy of someone's public app — their
    design and features as your starting point, your chat to make it yours.

## Getting around

    The [feed](/discover/the-feed) has a personalized **For You** tab and a
    **Trending** tab, plus category filters. There's also
    [search](/discover/search) for apps and creators, and a daily **App of
    the Day** notification worth keeping on.

  <Accordion title="Can I play with friends?" icon="users">
    Yes — share any app with a [link](/sharing/share-links) so friends get
    their own copy to play, and if your app is a game, everyone can compete
    on the same [high-score leaderboard](/using/leaderboards).

    On your [Home screen](/using/home-screen-and-folders) — every app you've
    made or saved, arrangeable like your phone's home screen, folders and
    all.
