How versions work
As you build and refine, your chat becomes a timeline. Each completed version drops in as its own card, from version 1 to wherever you’ve taken it.Each version is a snapshot
A version captures your whole app at that moment. Editing never overwrites an
older version — it adds a new one alongside it.
Its own icon, title, and info
Whip refreshes the icon, title, and description for every version, so each
card reflects what your app actually was at that point.
Browse and open any of them
Tap a version card on the timeline to open that version and see exactly how
it looked and worked.
Failures don't break history
If a build fails, it won’t damage the versions that came before it. Your
working history stays intact.
Undo a change you don’t like
Whip doesn’t have a one-tap “restore this version” button — the way you go back is the same way you got here: by chatting. Because nothing is ever overwritten, your earlier versions are always there on the timeline to look at while you decide what to ask for.Find the version you preferred
Scroll your chat timeline to the version card you liked, and open it to
confirm it’s the one.
Ask Whip to bring it back
Tell the AI in chat — “go back to the previous design”, “undo that last
change”, or describe the older version you want. Whip builds a fresh
version that returns to it.
Keep going from there
Carry on editing — every change lands as a new
version, so you can always course-correct again.
Nothing is ever lost. Even after you move on, every earlier version stays on
your timeline — so a change you regret is only a message away from being
reversed.
Two different kinds of “update”
These two are often confused, so here’s the difference in plain terms:- A new version of your app is what you create every time you edit or remix. These are the version cards in your chat.
- A new version of the Whip app itself is an update to the Whip app on your phone. When one is available, Whip shows an “Update available” prompt asking you to reload or update from the store. This has nothing to do with your app’s versions — it only keeps the Whip app itself current.
Common questions
How do I undo a change I don't like?
How do I undo a change I don't like?
Open the earlier version you preferred to remind yourself what it was, then
ask the AI in chat to go back to it. Whip creates a new version that
restores that design — and your other versions stay on the timeline.
Can I permanently lose an old version?
Can I permanently lose an old version?
No. Editing only ever adds new versions; it never overwrites or deletes the
ones before it. Your full history stays on the chat timeline.
Do remixes create versions too?
Do remixes create versions too?
Yes. A remix starts its own version history, separate
from the original app it came from.
Why is Whip asking me to update?
Why is Whip asking me to update?
That’s a new version of the Whip app itself, not your creation. Reload or
update from your app store to keep Whip current.
