How to comment and mention people on Whip

How comments work on Whip: post on public apps, like comments, @mention people, attach an image, and report or block from any comment.

You can comment on any public app on Whip to share a reaction, ask the creator a question, or tag a friend who’d love it. Open an app’s comments, type up to 2,000 characters, and post. You can like other comments, @mention people, and add one image — all in a single, shared conversation per app.

Post a comment

1. Open the comments

   Tap the comment icon on any app card in the feed or on an app’s detail sheet.

2. Write it

   Type in the Add a comment… box. You’ve got up to 2,000 characters.

3. Post

   Send it, and it appears in the app’s conversation for everyone to see.

Comments live on public apps. You can’t comment on a private app, and people you’ve blocked can’t comment where you can see them.

Mention people with @

Type @ followed by a name and a little search dropdown appears — tap someone to drop in their handle. Anyone you mention gets a notification pointing them to your comment. You can tag several people in one comment; the first 10 mentions get notified. Posted mentions are tappable and lead straight to that person’s profile.

Like a comment

Every comment has its own small heart and count. Tap it to like a comment you agree with — the person who wrote it gets a notification. Tap again to unlike.

Add an image

You can attach one image to a comment — a screenshot, a reaction pic, whatever fits.

What's allowed

One JPEG or PNG, up to 5 MB. You can post an image on its own, text on its own, or both together. Tap a posted image to view it full-screen.

Why is my image taking a moment?

Every comment image is screened for safety before it appears. If an image breaks the community rules, it’s turned back — swap it for a different one.

Editing and deleting

There’s one thing to know here: you can delete your own comment, but you can’t edit it. Spotted a typo? Delete the comment and post a fresh one. Long-press your comment and choose Delete Comment to remove it.

Deleting a comment can’t be undone. If you’re just fixing wording, copy your text before you delete so you can paste it into the new one.

One conversation, no threads yet

Comments on Whip are a single open conversation per app — there are no replies or threads right now. Everyone’s comments sit in one list, newest activity included, rather than branching into sub-conversations. Use an @mention when you want to point a specific comment at a specific person.

Keeping comments friendly

Every comment is screened automatically before it goes live, so the space stays welcoming. If a comment still crosses a line, long-press it to Report Comment or Block User — blocking makes the two of you invisible to each other across Whip.

A great comment is specific: what you liked, what surprised you, or a change you’d love to see. Creators read these, and it’s often what nudges them to ship the next version.

Common questions

Can I edit a comment?

No — comments can’t be edited. Delete the one you want to change and post a new one in its place.

Can I reply to a specific comment?

Not yet. There are no reply threads today. To direct a message at someone, @mention them so they get notified.

How many people can I mention?

Tag as many as you like in the text, but only the first 10 mentions send a notification.
